The Chesterfield Shop
Published on May 6, 2024

The Chesterfield Shop team have just come back from High Point Market Spring 2024 show. High Point Market is North America's largest home furnishings trade show that takes place in North Carolina, with over 11 million square feet and about 2,000 exhibitors.

Despite the whirlwind pace and the sheer size of the show, we soaked up all the trends, styles, and inspirations. So, let's dive right into the top home furnishing trends for spring and summer 2024!

Bubbly Cushions and Round Shapes
I can confidently say that round is the shape of the season. This trend has been showing up in the past year but is so strong and everyone is getting on board. The round shapes everywhere give an organic feel that ties into home furnishings is hard to ignore. There's something inherently inviting about round designs that instantly elevates the ambiance of any space. Whether it's a curved sofa, a circular coffee table, or playful bubbly cushions, these shapes add a sense of friendliness and harmony to interiors.

Channel Tufting
Piggybacking off the first trend, channeling was spotted everywhere. Everywhere we turned, lines and channels greeted us, adorning a variety of furnishings with this distinct look. Whether done vertically or horizontally, the evenly spaced channels adds a touch of class and texture to familiar pieces such as chairs, ottomans, and sofas. From sleek and modern designs to more traditional silhouettes, channel tufting is a detailing technique to elevate the aesthetic appeal of furniture pieces.

Relaxing Earth Tones
The earth tones including greens and browns that we saw in the fall are here to stay through the spring and summer season. In the fall they were rich and saturated, this season they are more mostly muted and subtle, offering comfort and relaxation. From deep greens to warm browns and an array of beiges, these natural hues evoked a sense of groundedness and tranquility, offering a relaxing escape from the hustle and bustle of modern life.

While neutrals provided a timeless foundation, blues, yellows, and greens were accented, injecting bursts of energy into the overall aesthetic. A few bold suppliers seized the opportunity to make a statement with chic offerings such as green chairs or yellow sofas, infusing spaces with a sense of vibrancy and excitement.

Neutrals and Textures

Neutrals and textures had a dominant presence at the spring market. We’ve moved away from the sea of grey and are now in a cloud of soft beiges and creamy tones, signaling a shift towards warmer, more inviting hue. From lush rugs to plush pillows and cozy throws, neutral textures took center stage, inviting visitors to indulge in tactile experiences that exuded comfort.

In essence, the combination of neutral tones and textures make a harmonious blend of cozy charm. By combining the soothing palette of neutrals with the tactile richness of textured upholstery, the result is an inviting and stylish space that stands the test of time.

Florals? For Spring? Groundbreaking
If you’ve ever watched the 2006 film, The Devil Wears Prada, then you know exactly where this is going. While florals may not be groundbreaking for spring, they are undeniably timeless and refreshing. There is an undeniable growing trend of ‘bringing the outside indoors’ and florals fit perfectly into that. While nature is in bloom, indulge in a floral print or two to bring this new season into the home.

Mixing Fabrics
Mixing and matching was everywhere. Tons of different fabrics were added to complement each other to achieve a unique aesthetic. From bold high contrasts to subtle harmonies, this juxtaposition of various fabrics creates dynamic visual interest that cannot be ignored! This emphasis on mixing multiple fabrics on one piece showcases that interiors are a touch of our personality and uniqueness that we can add to our life.

All the Bells and Whistles
We’ve seen furniture get a big upgrade in the past few years. We’ve seen performance fabrics, new mechanisms, power reclining motion added everywhere, USB/charging ports, lights, but there’s a trend of suppliers adding more function and technology to their seating offerings. One supplier unveiled a new multifunctional recliner designed for sleep that has lift, zero gravity, massage, heat and lights. Another supplier showcased their latest line of modular sectionals with a console equipped with a built-in charger and speaker system, transforming the seating area into a 'sound lounge'.

To summarize, High Point Market Spring 2024 showcased a diverse array of trends and innovations that are shaping the future of home furnishings. From organic shapes and textured upholstery to integrated technology and timeless florals, the market offered something for every style and taste.
